The City of Seoul is mulling to lift the 35-floor cap on an apartment building to diversify the riverside view and skyline across the Han River.
According to a senior official at the Seoul metropolitan government Tuesday, authorities are discussing to ease construction and design regulations for apartments along the Han River upon criticism that the monotonous train of apartments in same height is ruining the riverbank scenery.
Liberalization in building height along the river in various architectural forms could diversify the scene and skyline, he said, declining to be named.
“Time has come for us to redesign the uniform apartment architecture. We must allow more flexibility in how high an apartment can go for aesthetic and creative architecture freedom,” he said.
There are also opinions that the uniform regulation of requiring 15 percent to 19 percent building ratio to land should be fixed to allow more freedom in apartment design and architecture, he added.
